How to Check 18K Gold Plating Thickness and Quality

The checks wholesale buyers can use to evaluate copper necklaces: plating thickness, top coat, stone grade, and durability testing.

Plating thickness is the most important quality indicator for copper based 18K gold plated necklaces. Ask for the thickness in microns. A durable wholesale product should generally use at least 2-3 microns rather than thin flash plating.

Check whether the factory applies a protective top coat over the gold layer. The top coat helps resist tarnish, scratching, and color fading during handling, packaging, and repeated wear.

Stone quality also matters. AAA-grade cubic zirconia should have consistent color, clarity, and cutting. Compare the stones against a reference sample before bulk production and keep that sample for quality control.

Request a plating report or test certificate when available. For high-volume orders, ask about adhesion testing and wear resistance so the finish remains stable across the full production run.
